Otaru has two main festival areas which are lit up daily during the evenings, where you can see the Unga Kaijo area and the Temiyasen Kajio area fully light up with lanterns and small snow statues, which have lights placed inside them.

These two areas are located within a fifteen minutes distance only from the train station, making it very accessible to travel and enjoy the town’s ambiance on foot. There are also some food stands by the Temiyasen Kaijo area where you can enjoy the lanterns and eat feast on some local delicacies.
